He met with Commodore Matthew Perry several times in 1853. The following year, he was one of two Ryukyuan officials, along with fuseikan Tanabaru ueekata Ba Ryôsai, to sign the Treaty of Amity (Ryukyu-US) between Ryûkyû and the United States.
