History

When Uchino Shigeoki became a lay priest he took the name "Gassan Seiko-koji" (月山清光居士). The naginata used by Gassan Ryu has a hook in place of the guard (tsuba).[1] Uchino Shigeoki died in Hyuga, Takanabe-han, on the 15th day of the 9th month of the 7th year of Bunka (1810). Akiyama Yasukuni included iaijutsu as part of the curriculum.
